South Australian Riesling — Estate-Grown Across Two Benchmark Regions
Millon Wines produces Riesling from two of Australia's most celebrated cool-climate regions — Eden Valley and Clare Valley. These are the heartlands of Australian Riesling, and Millon has been growing fruit in both since the family planted their Eden Valley vineyard in 1999. The result is a collection of Rieslings that spans the full range of the variety: floral and citrus-bright from Eden Valley, intensely mineral and lime-driven from Clare Valley, and — in one exceptional case — a trophy-winning sweet Riesling that stands among the finest in the country.
Eden Valley Riesling — Altitude and Aromatics
Millon's Eden Valley vineyard sits in the elevated hills above the Barossa, where altitude exceeds 400 metres and the combination of warm days and cold nights creates ideal conditions for aromatic whites. The ancient schist soils produce a Riesling with piercing aromatics and natural acidity — fresh in youth and remarkable in the cellar. Expect lemon blossom, white peach, and citrus zest, with a mineral thread that lengthens the finish.
Clare Valley Riesling — Terra Rossa and Time
In the Clare Valley, Millon's estate at Armagh grows Riesling on terra rossa soils over limestone — the same red clay-over-limestone combination that has made Clare Valley a Riesling benchmark for over 160 years. Warm days, cold nights at 400–500 metres, and outstanding natural drainage create the intensity Clare Valley Riesling is celebrated for: lime juice, crushed slate, and a bone-dry finish that rewards patience in the cellar. A decade in the bottle transforms these wines — citrus brightens, texture broadens, and the hallmark petrol-and-mineral character of aged Riesling begins to emerge.
Award-Winning: Botrytis Riesling — Trophy, Melbourne Royal Wine Show 2025
In 2025, Millon's Botrytis Riesling won the Trophy for Best Sweet White Wine at the Melbourne Royal Wine Show, one of Australia's most prestigious wine competitions. Made from late-harvest Riesling grapes affected by botrytis cinerea — the noble rot that concentrates sugars, flavour, and acidity — this wine is rich with apricot, honey, orange marmalade, and a thread of citrus that keeps the sweetness in balance. It is a dessert wine that can stand alongside the world's great late-harvest whites, and it now carries a trophy to prove it.
A Style for Every Occasion
The Millon Riesling range covers the full spectrum. The dry Estate Riesling and Impressionist Riesling deliver the crisp, food-versatile freshness that makes Riesling one of the world's most versatile white wine grapes — perfect alongside Thai food, grilled seafood, Asian spiced dishes, or fresh oysters. The Clare's Secret Riesling brings more textural weight while keeping the variety's signature acid backbone. For a special occasion, the Botrytis Riesling offers sweetness balanced by acidity — ideal alongside blue cheese, stone fruit desserts, or as a wine to savour on its own.
Serving and Cellaring Riesling
Serve Riesling chilled — between 8°C and 10°C. Unlike most white wines, quality Riesling from Eden Valley or Clare Valley genuinely rewards patience in the cellar: dry styles develop complexity over 5–10 years, while Botrytis Riesling can evolve for 15–20 years in the right conditions. If you are buying now to drink later, Riesling is one of the safest long-term investments in Australian white wine.
