Is Riesling considered a sweet wine?
Riesling white wine can be both dry and sweet. Generally, Riesling is seen as a sweet white wine. It is not as sweet as moscato, but it is usually sweeter than a Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc. Riesling grapes have high acidity compared to other grapes, and this is what gives Riesling its wonderfully fresh, crisp flavour. However, to balance out this acidity, the fermentation is often stopped before all the sugars in the wine have been turned into alcohol — thus creating a wine that is slightly sweet.
What does Riesling wine taste like?
If you like dry, crisp white wines with a hint of sweetness, Riesling could be the drop for you. Best enjoyed on a warm spring or summer day, Millon Wines Rieslings offer something for everyone. At Million Wines, we have vineyards in the Barossa Valley, the Clare Valley and the Eden Valley. Our Riesling wines hail from the Eden Valley and the Clare Valley, and each has their own distinct taste.
What do you drink Reisling wine with?
Thanks to its high acidity, Riesling wine can be paired nicely with seafood, spicy Asian dishes (such as Thai curries), pork and chicken.
What cheese goes best with Riesling wine?
As Riesling can run the gamut from dry to sweet, there are a number of cheeses you can try pairing it with. A dry Riesling tends to pair very well with soft, creamy cheeses such as camembert, whereas a sweeter Riesling white wine will pair nicely with stronger, saltier cheeses such as blue cheese or even Monterey Jack.
What white varietal wine is Eden Valley best known for?
The Eden Valley in South Australia is best known for Riesling. The majority of Million Wine’s Rieslings come from the Eden Valley, and we find that the altitude and the soil conditions of the Eden Valley help to cultivate exceptionally exquisite Riesling grapes.
