The Reserve Collection — Premium SA Wines Built for the Cellar
The Reserve range represents Millon Wines' premium tier — the wines made from fruit that has earned special attention in the vineyard and the winery. These are not everyday wines, although they can certainly be enjoyed as such. They are wines with structure, depth, and the kind of tannin and acid backbone that rewards patience — and they are made by a winery that has been growing estate fruit across Eden Valley, Barossa Valley, and Clare Valley since 1999.
Reserve Shiraz — South Australian at Its Best
Reserve Shiraz is the cornerstone of this collection. Made from estate-grown Shiraz selected for exceptional depth and balance, it is a full-bodied, structured red wine with the character South Australia does better than anywhere else in the world. Dark fruits dominate — blackberry, plum, morello cherry — with secondary notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, and cedary oak. The tannins are firm and fine, with a long, warming finish. It is the kind of Shiraz that demands a serious meal alongside it: a slow-roasted lamb shoulder, a Sunday porterhouse, or a rich beef ragù.
Reserve Grenache — Clare Valley Elegance
Grenache is a variety that rewards restraint in the winery, and the Reserve Grenache shows what South Australian Grenache can be at its best: medium-bodied and silky, with red fruit flavours of raspberry, pomegranate, and blood orange, and a savoury, herbal finish that keeps the palate fresh. Estate-grown fruit from Millon's Clare Valley vineyard is handled gently to preserve the variety's natural aromatics and fine-grained texture.
Winemaking and Viticulture
Head winemaker Angus Wardlaw takes a minimalist approach across the Millon portfolio, and the Reserve range is no exception. The goal is to amplify the character of the fruit, not to mask it. Extended maceration, careful temperature-controlled fermentation, and time in quality French and American oak barrels develop the structure and complexity that define Reserve wines. These are wines where the vineyard has done the heavy work — the winery's job is to get out of the way.
Serving and Pairing
Serve Reserve Shiraz at around 17°C, decanting for 30–60 minutes if the wine is under five years old. Food pairing: red meats, game, rich pastas, aged hard cheeses. Reserve Grenache is best served slightly cooler (15–16°C) and pairs well with duck, spiced lamb dishes, charcuterie, and Mediterranean flavours.
