Clare's Secret — Estate Wines from the Clare Valley
Clare's Secret is named for the valley that inspired it: the Clare Valley in South Australia's Mid North, one of the country's most distinct and storied wine regions. Millon Wines' family estate at Armagh sits within the Clare Valley, and it is here that the fruit for the Clare's Secret range is grown — on terra rossa soils over limestone, at elevations of 400–500 metres, with the cool nights and warm days that make Clare Valley wines so distinctive.
The Clare Valley has been producing wine for over 160 years. It is known internationally for Riesling that rivals the best in the world, and for Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz that reflect the region's rocky soils and intense, aromatic character. The Clare's Secret range brings the valley's best varieties to the table in wines that are expressive, approachable, and made to be enjoyed with food.
Clare's Secret Riesling
The centrepiece of the range, Clare's Secret Riesling is the variety Clare Valley does best. Estate-grown at Armagh, this is a dry Riesling with the lime juice intensity and slate minerality that define the region's style. The natural acidity keeps the wine fresh and vibrant, and gives it the structure to develop in the cellar — a Clare's Secret Riesling with five to eight years of age is a genuinely different and more complex wine than when first released. Pair with Thai food, fresh seafood, Asian spiced dishes, or simply a good cheese board.
Clare's Secret Rosé, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Grenache
The Clare's Secret range extends beyond white wine. The Clare's Secret Rosé is made from estate Grenache and brings the valley's characteristic red fruit brightness and dry finish to the lighter style. The Shiraz is medium to full-bodied with the spice and dark fruit character that Clare Valley grows with ease. The Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the region's affinity for Bordeaux varieties — structured, with blackcurrant and savoury herb characters. The Grenache brings silky tannins and red fruit flavours that make it the most food-versatile red in the range.
The Clare Valley Story
The Clare Valley was established as a wine region by European settlers in the 1840s and has been growing grapes continuously since. Its isolation — roughly 100 kilometres north of Adelaide in a valley flanked by the Flinders Ranges — means it has largely escaped the commercial pressures that changed winemaking in more accessible regions. The result is a place where boutique producers, family wineries, and sustainable viticulture remain the norm rather than the exception. Millon's estate at Armagh is part of this tradition.
