2013 Millon Estate The Royal Shiraz

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested in numerous batches in late March and early April, before being gently destemmed and then fermented for 8-9 days on skins where hand pump overs were employed twice daily. The juice has been traditionally pressed and immediately filled to a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels where it underwent further maturation to impart additional balance and complexity.

Colour

A deep black red in colour

Aroma

Powerful and inviting with notes of plum, fruitcake, chocolate, sweet spice, black olive and pepper

Palate

Soft and refined, the palate is full-bodied with flavours of red and black berries and plum together with chocolate, coffee and spice notes, all complimented by subtle barrel characters. Tannins are prominent but rounded and well integrated adding solid structure. Layered and complex, it has a pleasant, lingering finish.

Food Pairing

The robust nature of this Shiraz sees that it pairs wonderfully with rich and strongly flavoured red meat dishes, beef dishes in particular, such as Stir-Fried Pepper Beef, Seared Beef Steak with Mushroom Sauce and Slow Cooked Brisket.
